Emails obtained through a federal lawsuit show that Clinton’s aides, Philippe Reines and Cheryl Mills, ran interference during the attack.
Mills told the State Department spokesperson to stop answering reporters’ questions about the status of Ambassador Christopher Stevens, who was missing and later found dead.
Near midnight, Clinton put out a statement wrongly blaming a protest sparked by a YouTube video.
“Cheryl Mills was instrumental in making sure the big lie was put out there,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said. “What’s notable thus far is that we received no emails from or to Mrs. Clinton, and you have to wonder whether these aides went offline and were using these secret accounts to communicate with her about the Benghazi attack.”
Littered throughout these emails are references to the “Benghazi group,” which a diplomatic source tells Herridge was code for Mills’ task force, which was responsible for doing damage control.
